Wood and engraving are a natural combination. Discover which wooden items suit engraving and which occasions call for it.
Wood accepts an engraving with natural warmth. The fibrous structure of the wood adds depth to every inscription — the result is rustic yet elegant. Wood engraving has become one of the most popular personalisation techniques for gifts, awards and corporate giveaways.
Which Wood Works Best for Engraving?
Laser engraving works on most types of wood. The best results come from darker hardwoods: walnut, cherry and larch. Lighter woods such as birch or maple offer high contrast between the engraved area and the surface. Bamboo — technically a grass — engraves as well as wood and is popular for eco gifts. We recommend avoiding resinous woods (spruce, pine) for fine detail work, as resin absorbs laser energy unevenly.
What We Engrave on Wood
- Cutting boards: with name, monogram or dedication — a popular wedding gift
- Tags and pendants: for keys, pets, luggage and bags
- Photo frames: with a dedication or date
- Office accessories: pencil holders, phone stands, decorative trays
- Awards and plaques: wooden plaques with engraving for competitions and anniversaries
What Makes Wood Unique
Every piece of wood is unique. Two cutting boards from the same tree have different grain patterns, which means the engraving on each will look slightly different. This does not make a wooden gift worse — it makes it one of a kind. For corporate orders where consistent appearance across 20 or 50 pieces is expected, we recommend bamboo or composite wood panels, which are more homogeneous.
Engraving on wood starts from €3.90 for simple text. A logo or complex motif is from €8, depending on the engraving area. Lead time is 1 working day for orders up to 50 pieces.
Wooden gifts pair well with engraved glassware — check our range of glasses and decanters with engraving, or read our personalised gifts guide for more occasion ideas.
