Metal engraving is one of the oldest crafts — and one of the most durable ways to mark a surface. At Graving studio, with 35 years of tradition, we have completed thousands of orders on aluminium, brass, stainless steel, copper and zinc. Each material has different properties that affect the look and longevity of the engraving.

Aluminium — Lightweight, Modern, Cost-Effective

Aluminium is the most popular material for door signs, house numbers and industrial plates. Laser engraving on single-layer anodised aluminium produces an exceptionally sharp inscription — white or silver text on a black surface. The colour is integral to the material (the anodised layer), not a surface coating, making it scratch-resistant and UV-stable. Aluminium signs are 3× lighter than brass equivalents at the same size and approximately 40% cheaper.

Brass — Classic for Representative Spaces

Brass means gold colour, weight and solidity. An engraved brass nameplate at the entrance to an office or hotel says: “A serious organisation operates here.” Brass is engraved with a diamond tip (mechanical engraving), which removes the top layer to reveal the lighter metal beneath. The result is a gold inscription on a golden background — subtle but dignified. Brass signs are suited to indoor installation; outdoor use requires a protective lacquer coating.

Stainless Steel — Outdoor Use Without Compromise

Stainless steel (inox) is ideal for signs that must withstand rain, sun and frost without oxidising. Laser engraving on stainless steel produces a matte, greyish surface on a polished background. Plates and house numbers in stainless steel are the standard for facades, entryways and industrial environments. Durability: 30+ years without maintenance in outdoor conditions.
